Fintona girls win a haul of medals at the World Scholar's Cup

31 May 2018

On Friday the 25 of May and Saturday 26 of May, five teams of three Year 8 students competed in the World Scholar's Cup (WSC); Local Round. The WSC takes place all over the world, is in its second year here in Melbourne and was Fintona's first time attending the competition. Over the two days, the teams participated in a number of academically-based challenges such as debating, collaborative writing, the scholar's bowl and the scholar's challenge; which are based on the academic disciplines of Maths, Science, History, Literature, Arts and Social Sciences. The teams performed exceptionally well and many awards were given to the students as a team and for their individual efforts. Of particular mention is Livea Tropea who was individually awarded as the number 1 debater of the event, within the junior division and was then invited to debate as fourth speaker in the Debate Showcase with students from the senior division. Her articulate, mature and persuasive presentation skills are to be commended.
