Over the weekend, 34 members of the Fintona rowing program competed with pride and courage on the Barwon River in Geelong at the 2019 Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta (HOSG). HOSG is the largest regatta of its kind in the southern hemisphere with over 2,000 competitors and over 15,000 spectators. The weather gods were on our side and all Fintona rowers made the most out of the near perfect weather conditions to put forward season best races following months of hard work and dedication.
The senior quad were placed third in the C final rowing a personal best time in the heat and exploding out of the start in the final.
Venus Yu made it through to the quarter finals placing her in the top half of the field of over 24 single scullers.
The inter quad scull made up of Lani McKernan, Emily Kha, Judy Wang, jasmine Ye and Alexia Karagiannis were placed sixth overall in the division qualifying convincingly through to the A/B semi-final, only just falling short on the A final.
Our Inter scullers all had a number of successes over the weekend with Jasmine Ye making it through to the quarter final, Bridget Bolton rowing a personal best in her repechage and Maanya Kapoor dominated her final.
We had record numbers of junior rowers competing at HOSG with all four crews experiencing season best performances across the weekend.
All rowers and families are to be congratulated on what has been a fantastic season.
